Debra's Column My Birthday Gift I am always so amazed each time I receive a message or a sign from the other side. Even though I connect daily with the other side as a medium, my humanness is amazed by the caring, compassionate, and loving communication. My heart goes out to everyone who is grieving a loss, but rest assured your loved ones who are safe on the other side send gifts, signs, and messages. Each gift is sent with love and at times has multiple layers of information. Each time you receive a message or gift think about the effort involved to conveying or manifesting it and take pleasure in the process. I have on many occasions been the recipient of very personal and miraculous gifts. Last November I received the most amazing gift. A few weeks prior to my birthday I received a promotional letter in the mail from a jewelry store; the postcard was addressed to me. I was intrigued because it said “Come in and get your free gift, a pair of 14 carat gold and pearl earrings.” Well, right away I wondered what the catch was. I examined the postcard up and down, front to back for the catch. I couldn’t find one, so I decided to keep the card and go to the mall. With the postcard in hand I approached the woman behind the counter and very sheepishly showed her the card, expecting to hear “Oh I’m sorry, this went out by mistake.” Instead the woman said, “Oh yes Mrs. Becker, I have your gift right over here. Come with me.” She took me to the back of the store and told me to wait. As I stood there, looking around the store, I realized that this was a very nice upscale store with rows and rows of very fine jewelry. When the woman came out of the back room she was carrying a beautiful red velvet box. The women thanked me for coming in after placing the box in a bag. It was wrapped in another box with a gold ribbon on it. Inside the box was a beautiful pair of pearl earrings. The funny thing was, this was a brand new store. I don’t remember ever being in a store like this before, and it made me wonder how they got my name. Why had I received this special offer? I asked several of my friends if they had received a card in the mail from the jewelry story and every single person I asked said they had not received anything. The earrings were perfect for me, exactly what I would have picked out for myself. A few days later I was cleaning the house and as I went into my closet to hang up some clothes, I could feel my son come into the room. (My son Kris passed away in March of 2003). He said “Hey mom, how did you like your birthday present?” I turned around to see his beautiful smiling face and said “What?” and then I remembered the pearl earrings. As he continued to smile he gave me a hug and said, “I wasn’t late this time.” Tears filled my eyes as I thanked him for the lovely gift. I was shocked and amazed and felt so very blessed. Later on, I asked him how he managed to get me this beautiful gift. He said he that he has his ways; he has lots of helpers on the other side to assist him and that these wonderful spirit beings love me very much. He also said that every time I look at my pearl earrings I should remember how wonderful and gifted I am. My spirit was lifted in a way that only the communication from my son and an open channel to the spirit world could give. I am so grateful and blessed that these gifts allow me to be so close to the other side. Hopefully everyone can experience this connection sometime during our precious lives. In sharing my life experiences, and the many gifts of healing that have been received from spirit, I hope to bring an understanding of the world outside this physical one and the comfort of healing this connection brings.
