Debra's Column A Squirrelly Encounter Extraordinary feats of nature are rarely captured on film, or even witnessed in person, but some very strange events have been occurring right outside my front door. I recently set up a new digital recording device to capture readings over the phone for long-distance clients. Knowing it was very important that a clear recording was preserved for particular client, I decided to setup a backup tape recorder. To my surprise, when I called the phone rang once and went immediately to voice mail. Just a few hours before, a clear picture came through to me that my client’s husband wanted to make his presence known a little early. Not thinking much of it, I went about my business. Usually when a loved one from the other side comes in before the session even begins, they are especially good communicators. Getting my attention early takes some effort. I sat down in my large comfy chair to make repeated phone calls to the client. My loveable little puppy, Cooper, jumped up on my lap as usual. As we waited to get through, Cooper noticed a squirrel outside and started to bark. Usually the squirrels run off, but not this time. This fuzzy little creature wanted to get close and personal, which made Cooper bark louder. He was so excited that he was literally bouncing up and down on my lap, clawing my legs as little webs of slobber went shooting out of his mouth! The squirrel stood there on the wishing well just outside of my large front window, now covered in saliva, with a look that said, “Come and get me if you can.” I was utterly amazed at this little creature’s tenacity. He started creeping even closer, and then, as if out of nowhere, he took a flying leap directly onto the window! Understandably, Cooper jumped back as if he was getting attacked. The squirrel’s teeny front paws were glued to the window like suction cups on one of those Garfield toys hanging from the rear window of a car. His fuzzy little face was plastered right up against the glass. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I sat there with my mouth wide open, watching in astonishment as his paws slowly slid down the window. There must be something wrong with this animal, I thought to myself. Suddenly, the phone rang. It was my client. She started to apologize, telling me that somehow her phone got turned off, and this wasn’t the first time something like this has happened. The tape recording failed during her last session and it seems that her husband likes to put on quite a show in the presence of mediums. Telling her about my encounter with the tenacious squirrel gave her a chuckle. She told me that Allen loved animals and it didn’t surprise her that he would show up in this way. Then she said to her husband, “Allen, I really need to hear this, so please don’t mess with the recording.” Making it clear to her that a backup plan was in place, we started the session. The connection with Allen was wonderful. He was so open and clear, his humorous and charismatic nature came through perfectly. He told me that his job on the other side was to engineer energy for better communication between this side and the next. All the signs that we were receiving were engineered by him through this new spiritual technology. It was certainly amazing that he could get a squirrel to jump right up onto the window! As we talked for about 90 minutes, another very curious thing happened. Off and on throughout the reading it sounded as if someone was tapping out Morse code through the phone. Come to find out, Allen had also spent a little time in the Navy. As predicted, the digital recording didn’t work, but I am happy to say the backup tape recorded beautifully. Surely this sounds like a slight embellishment, but the only way to prove my flying suction-cup squirrel story is if my dog miraculously started to communicate like the talking horse, Mr. Ed. Receiving so many wonderful signs each day is such a blessing, and I can’t simply explain them as natural phenomenon or mere coincidence. However, I can tell you that I will never look at a squirrel the same way again.
